Can you be more specific?
Yes! Think of me as a communications utility player, a pinch hitting, freelance communications director.
Online, I work on e-mail advocacy and fund-raising campaigns, promoting brands on social networks and online communities, managing Web sites and as a project manager for site redesigns. In print, I write and manage publications ranging from press materials and newsletters to annual reports, features and marketing collateral. At and for events, I help prepare and write speeches, scripts and presentations.
These often overlap. I also help my clients plan, choose and coordinate these services, and train them to perform tasks in house.

What experience do you have?
I’ve been in the communications field since 1991 (see my resume pdf/116kb), and technology has always been part of the equation. Here are a few of the roles I’ve played:
- LEADER: consultant, client, supervisor, director, manager, client
- NONPROFIT: membership manager, online advocacy manager, e-mail marketer, volunteer recruiter, webmaster
- TEAMS: project manager, team leader, team player, trainer
- COMMUNICATIONS: writer, brainstormer, production specialist, content expert
- PR & JOURNALISM: publicist, analyst relations, researcher, reporter
Well-rounded. Seasoned. Proven. Don’t just take my word for it. Check my LinkedIn Recommendations (you have to sign up first — it’s free and well worth it).

What kind of clients do you work with?
I am fortunate to have nonprofit, businesses and government clients. I usually work with small to mid-sized organizations, or play a specialized role (usually writer) on larger teams.

You bet! Please check out these Case Studies.

What about design and graphics work, or coding?
I like to leave these tasks to respective experts in the field. We can work with your preferred vendors, I can recommend vendors, or we can find providers together through an RFP process. Each client, and each project, has unique needs.

Do you work on an hourly, project or retainer rate?
All of the above. New clients usually prefer a defined project and project fee. As we work on an initial project, I learn more about you and you learn more about me and professional communications and marketing. If all goes well and we are a fit, we establish a broader budget.
This model allows us to build a relationship, and many times it evolves to a more fluid arrangement to accommodate progressive expansion and improvement of communications and marketing.
That said, your situation is unique. We can figure out a work arrangement together.

Where do you work?
I work from a home office in Rhinebeck, NY, which is about 100 miles north of New York City. This beautiful part of the country is called the Hudson Valley. Congress has recognized this region as the landscape that defined America. Take a tour at the official Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area Web Site.

Do you travel for clients?
I have two young children, so as long as we plan travel in advance, the answer is yes I can!

What technology do you know?
I’ve worked with a variety of technology software and services. I add new tools to my repertoire all the time. And if I don’t know it now, I’m always up for learning it.
Here are a few of the tool genres I have experience with:
- Customer relationship management packages (Get Active, now Convio)
- E-mail services (Constant Contact, Feedblitz, Yahoo and Google Groups)
- Content management systems/blogging platforms (Drupal, Joomla, Word Press and Squarespace)
- Social networks (Facebook, LinkedIn, del.icio.us, RSS readers, Twitter, Flickr, chat)
- Project management tools (Basecamp, Central Desktop, TimeBridge, TimetoMeet)
